๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พCyprus Address Format

Cyprus addresses are short: recipient, the street with the number after it, then a four-digit postal code before the town. Two things trip up Western forms: the code sits before the city, not after, and codes in the north route through a separate postal system. Here is the correct structure, a real example, the postal code rules, and the mistakes that cause returns.

The Cyprus address format, field by field

A Cyprus label is recipient, optional company, the street name with the number after it, then the four-digit postal code and the town on one line, then the country. There is no district or province line.

Postal code rules

The Cyprus Post code is the primary routing field, and its first digit maps to one of the island's six districts: Nicosia 1000-2999, Limassol 3000-4999, Famagusta 5000-5999, Larnaca 6000-7999, Paphos 8000-8999, Kyrenia 9000-9999. A correct code plus street is usually enough to sort the parcel.

1065

Format: 4 digits, no letters or spaces. Written before the town on the same line: 1065 Nicosia. For inbound international mail it is often prefixed with the country code, CY-1065.

Validation regex: ^\d{4}$

Watch for: codes placed after the town (US habit), and 5000 or 9000-series codes for the north, which Cyprus Post cannot deliver and which must be routed via Mersin 10, Turkey.

What makes Cyprus different

The country-specific rules that generic autocomplete and single-line address fields tend to get wrong.

Code before town

The postal code comes before the town

Cyprus writes the four-digit code first, then the town: 1065 Nicosia. A form built for the US "city, state ZIP" order puts the code last and produces a line couriers read backwards.

The divided island

Northern codes route through Turkey

Cyprus Post delivers only in the government-controlled south. Addresses in the north, covering much of the Famagusta and Kyrenia ranges, are handled by a separate system and are conventionally addressed via Mersin 10, Turkey, not a Cyprus country line.

Number after street

The building number follows the street name

Cypriot addresses put the street name first and the number after it, as in Leoforos Makariou III 42. Number-first Western order is read wrong, and the Leoforos (avenue) or Odos (street) prefix should be kept.

CY- prefix

International mail uses the CY- prefix

For inbound international items the postal code is often written CY-1065, with the country code and a dash before the four digits. It is optional but should validate as the same 1065 code, not a new five-character value.

Errors that cause failed deliveries to Cyprus

Each of these passes a basic "is this field filled in" check but fails at the carrier, turning into a redelivery, a return, or an address correction fee.

โœ•Postal code placed after the town. Nicosia 1065 reverses the expected 1065 Nicosia order and stalls automated sorting.
โœ•Northern address with a Cyprus country line. A Kyrenia or northern Famagusta address routed as Cyprus instead of via Mersin 10, Turkey cannot be delivered by Cyprus Post.
โœ•Code outside the district range. A 3000-series code on a Nicosia address points to the wrong district entirely.
โœ•Number before the street. 42 Makariou instead of Leoforos Makariou III 42 is read as an unknown address.
โœ•Greek and Latin script mixed. Partial Greek-script text in a Latin-only carrier system can be dropped or garbled in transit.

Carrier notes for Cyprus

How the major carriers handle Cyprus addresses, and what your label needs to satisfy each one.

Cyprus Post

The national operator and last-mile partner for most inbound international mail in the government-controlled areas. Routing keys off the four-digit code, so validate it and its district first.

ACS Courier Cyprus

The leading domestic courier, with branches across Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Famagusta. It expects the full street, number, postal code and town for reliable next-day delivery.

DHL, FedEx & UPS

International carriers for inbound shipments. Include the country line and keep the CY- prefix consistent; they charge for address corrections when a code or town forces a manual fix.

Validate every Cyprus address at checkout

Address Guard checks Cyprus addresses against carrier and postal databases before the order ships, normalizes the format, and flags the errors that cause failed deliveries. 240+ countries, $0.05 per check.

Cyprus address format FAQ

How do you write a Cyprus address?+
Recipient name, optional company, the street name followed by the building number, then the four-digit postal code and the town on one line, then CYPRUS. There is no district or province line, and mail to the north is addressed via Mersin 10, Turkey instead.
What is the Cyprus postal code format?+
Four digits with no letters or spaces, for example 1065. The first digit maps to one of six districts, and the code is written before the town, as in 1065 Nicosia. Inbound international mail often prefixes it as CY-1065.
Why do parcels to Cyprus get returned?+
Usually because the code was placed after the town, sat outside the correct district range, or the address was in the north and routed as Cyprus rather than via Mersin 10, Turkey. Validating the four-digit code against the district and town before shipping prevents most returns.
